Notes: James Knight Deacon was born on 31st January 1823 at Earls Barton, Northam ptonshire to Stephen & Elizabeth Deacon. James left Northamptonshire to li ve and work in London. In 1851(census) he was single and living in 24, Jo hn Street, Stepney, and working as a Clerk in a Sugar House, He married So phia Wagstaff at Tonbridge, Kent in 1855. In 1860 James moved 200 mil es to Lancashire, the 1861Census shows James & his wife, had four childre n, the family were living at 5, Hilton Street, Chorlton upon Medlock, Manc hester. Hannah Turner, a 20 year old Salford girl is the House Servant. Ja mes is now a Commercial Traveller. In 1871(census) the family, now with s ix children at home, had moved to 14, Peel Terrace, Newton, Manchester. Sa rah Chatterton, aged 17, is now the Domestic Servant. James is now describ ed as a Commission Agent. In 1881 (census) James was at Richmond Villa, Brook Road, Heaton Norris, L ancashire, with his wife and eight children. Also at the address was Ann M oore, a 16 year old general servant from Liverpool. He is now a commerci al traveller in the oil business. By 1891(census) James and Sophia are still living in Brook Road with fi ve of their children and a servant, Florence Fritton. In 1901(census) Jam es, now a widower, is living at Broomhurst, Moor Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshi re with son George, daughter Etty, and 17 year old servant Louisa Adshea d. James died in 1914 at Stockport, Cheshire aged 91yrs.[
