Notes: Born in Lewisham he spent his early life at 100, Springbank Road, Hither G reen in South East London. Evacuated to Llangollen in 1941 with his paren ts (and new wife!). He completed his education at Woolwich Polytechnic with a B.Sc in Mechanic al Engineering (12 July 1940). Ted worked for his father's company, Davis Bros (Motor Supplies) Lt d, as an aircraft parts inspector during World War II. He left the compa ny in 1949 to take up a teaching post at Tunbridge Wells Technical Institu te, lecturing on automobile engineering. He moved with his family, then t wo children, to Frant in East Sussex where, whilst still teaching, he al so ran a small repair and second hand car sales business at the George Gar age, Frant. The family lived in a caravan for a while and then at Henley L odge,Frant and 13,Warren Ridge,Frant. Ted returned to Llangollen in 1958 on his father's retirement to take ov er Davis Bros, and to buy out the Llangollen part of the business, renami ng it Deeside Broadhurst Ltd. (The DBL initials were important. A whole fl eet of vehicles already had DBL number plates!) For many years DBL also in corporated the local bus company, Bryn Melyn Motor Services, and the Sun S ervice Garage, as well as a property company. The family, now three childr en, lived for a while at Cartrefle, Chapel Street, Llangollen, before movi ng to Llwyn Palis, Llangollen in 1960, where Ted lived until his dea th in 1996. In 1980, together with his son, he set up the Llangollen Motor Museum, ini tially housed in the premises of the Sun Garage. When DBL folded in 1985 the Museum was moved to property at Pentrefelin, L langollen, where it continued in the family care until his death in 1996. Ted served in the Royal Observer Corps for many years from the early 1950 s, reaching the rank of Observer Officer, and being awarded the Corps' lo ng service medal. A keen sailor, he bought his first boat,'Puddlehopper',in the late 1940 s, keeping it first at Porthdinllaen on the Lleyn peninsular and lat er at Rye Harbour in Sussex. He owned several small cruising boats befo re acquiring 'Montana', a 50ft twin engined motor-sailer, in the mid 1960 s. He cruised northern Europe extensively and wrote regularly for the yach ting press. Boats gave way to model railways - built to high standards and run at ma ny exhibitions throughout the north-west of England - and later a large co llection of classic cars.
