James is missing from the the 1871 Census but m arried Ruth Merritt in 1876 at Christchurch, Hampshire. In 1880 James h as his Daughter Christened as Walgrave & is described as an Innkeep er In 1881(census) James is living with his Wife and Daughter at High Str eet, Stony Stratford. His wife's sister, Elizabeth Merritt, and his sist er Theresa are also living with them, James is now a Publican. In 1891(cen sus) the family are at 19A, Lodge Road, Birmingham. Elizabeth Merritt is s till with them. James is now a Cab Driver. In 1901(census) the family, sti ll including Elizabeth Merritt, are still at Lodge Road. James' niece Ell en is also at the house. James is described as a Cab Driver Groom ' on h is own account'.
