Notes: Service report prepared by Chris Baker shows Robert atteste d on 02 Sept 1914 and was 23 years & 250 days old. This gi ves an approximate birth date of 26 Dec 1890. Cleish is gi ven in his army record as his place of birth. The 1901 Census shows Robert as being aged 10 and his plac e of birth as 'Cleish, Kinross-shire'. CWGC record shows Robert was killed in action 10 Jul 1917 w hile fighting on the Western Front in Belgium. Robert was buried on the battlefield and at some time afte r the war his body was exhumed. He and 366 other men wer e then re-buried in military plots at the civilian cemeter y of Ypres, Belgium. His grave is is in Ypres Town Centr e Extension Cemetery, ref I.C.16.
