Notes: His approximate year of birth is taken fron his age (3 mont hs) on the 1881 Census and his age (10) on the 1891 Census . Place of birth on both Census records shows Foulness. He was killed in action while fighting with the Canadian In fantry on the Western Front in WWI. Obituary from the Southend Standard dated 17 May 1917. GREAT WAKERING MAN KILLED. News has reached Mrs. Woods, of High St., Great Wakering, t hat her youngest son, Pte. Sidney O. Woods, Canadian Infant ry, died of wounds on April 29th. He was 36 years of age a nd lived in the district until his emigration to Canada abo ut 10 years ago. He lost his life after seven months in Fr ance and nearly two years with the Canadian contingent. Wh ilst undergoing training, Pte. Woods was enabled to pay a s hort visit to his old home. Much sympathy is expressed fo r the widow and four young children in Canada. Mrs. Wood s has had three sons and nine grandsons "doing their bit" i n the war. He is buried in Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extemsion, Franc e (grave reference II. J. 11).
