He was born on 28 December 1893 in Tullyshelferty, Co Monagh an. He was the youngest of a family that included Joseph, born on 11 Ma y 1875 and James born on 9 March 1879. Joseph and James emigrated to Sout h Africa (to Johannesburg) and set up in business. Samuel was in Monagha n until July 1918 for he registered his father's death. The story in th e family was that he had to leave the country (maybe during the trouble s in early 1920s?). He must have gone to SA for family there talk about S am but they have his details mixed up with those of James. Any help woul d be appreciated; even ideas about where to look for info in SA?
