"The enemy" captured the ship i n Saldanhabay and after his release, he obtained permission to stay in th e Cape with the VOC (Vereenigde Oost-Indische Compagnie) (Dutch East Indi a Company). He became a "burger" (citizen) in 1791 and died on 1818-04-15 . He married Dorothea Rosina Arends on 1782-09-22 who was the widow of Ro elof Andresen of Halmstad in Sweden.
