Notes: Hercule was the progenitor (stamvader) of the Du Preez family in South Af rica. He was a French Huguenot refugee from Courtrai (Flanders). He arrived in the Cape in 1688 on the ship "De Schelde," which left for t he Cape on 19 Feb 1688 and was anchored in Table Bay on 5 June 1688. He w as accompanied on the voyage by his wife, Cecilia, and their 6 children f rom Vlissingen, Netherlands. He was a tailor. In 1690 he received financial assistance for his wife a nd 5 children. The farm "De Zoete Inval," near Paarl (now Paarl Station), was granted t o him by Simon van der Stel in 1688. He later died on this farm in 1695.
