Notes: Marie was possibly the sister of stamvader Francois Retief (born 2 Feb 16 63 in Mer, Bloise, France and died on 24 Sep 1721 in the Cape). Francoi s arrived in South Africa in 1688 . He lived on the farm "La Paris" in Klein Drakenstein, and later at "Patas kloof", Wagenmakersvallei. He married Marie Mouy, sister of Jeanne and da ughter of Pierre Mouy, in 1700. They had nine children. His French nam e of Retif became Dutchified to Retief.
