Notes: James Herbert Knight was born on January 26th 1834 at Hannington, Northamp tonshire. He was born to James & Ann Knight, James Christened on January 2 6th 1837 at the Independent Meeting House in Old at the same time as his S ister Sarah. In 1841 (census) James is 7yrs old, he is living with his wid dowed father, sister & two servants, at the Farm in Holcott, Northamptonsh ire. In 1851(census) James is now 17yrs old, he is living in Hannington w ith his father, step-mother, and four half siblings, he is helping his fat her at the Farm. In 1856 James married his second Cousin once removed Mart ha Norton at Holborn in London. By 1861(census) James had married and w as living with his wife and two sons at Hainhault House in Hackney, Tow er Hamlets. He is a clerk with HM Customs. Also at the house on census nig ht were two visitors, George and Jonas Barritt. In 1871(census) the famil y, now with four children, had moved to 9, Queens Road, Edmonton, Middlese x. James is still a Customs clerk. In 1881 (census) still living at 9, Queens Road, with his wife and five ch ildren. Also at the house are brother Richard and half brother James (t wo children with the same father, same name, but different mothers! ). He is still a clerk with HM Customs and Excise (Controller of accounts ). He died (3a,164) in the third quarter of 1881 aged 47.
