Notes: James Knight was born September 28th 1805, at Walgrave, Northamptonshi re to James & Elizabeth Knight. He was Christened at the Independent Meeti ng house, Great Creaton. In 1841(census) James is 30yrs old he was a widow er in Holcot with two children, and described as a farmer. When he marri ed for the second time later the same year he was at 74, Paul St, Shoredit ch, and described himself as an accountant. James and Martha returned to N orthants not long after their wedding and all of their children were bo rn in that county. In 1851(census) James and Martha are living in Hannington with four childr en of their own and two from James' first marriage. James is farming 184 a cres and employing ten labourers and a maltster. Three servants are in t he house, Elizabeth Wilson, Mary Norton and Henry Henson. Martha does not appear on the 1861 census, when James is described as a wi dower. He is again a farmer, with 192 acres, employing six men and a bo y. Also in the house on census night are six of his children, a housekeepe r, 43 year old Elizabeth Robinson, and a 28 year old servant, Hannah Kebe r. By 1867 the family were back in London. At the time of Robert Hipwell K night's wedding that year James was a coal merchant. In 1871 he was livi ng at 54 East Surrey Grove, Camberwell with five children, including Willi am, aged 25, who had been away at boarding school during the previous cens us. By 1881(census) he was still at the same address with his son Edmun d, daughter Julia, and grandson 22-year-old Henry Norton. He died (1d,50 0) in the third quarter of 1889 aged 83.
