Notes: Henry John Devereux was born on 12th January 1816 at Bury St Edmunds, Suff olk to Jonathan & Mary Devereux. In 1841(census) Henry appears to be stayi ng in a Boarding House with his younger Sister, they are staying in Ann S t, Birmingham. but married Jane cock 14th November 1845 at Withersdale, P arish Church, Hoxne, Suffolk. Wittnesses at the Wedding were Jane's Brothe r's Jeremiah Cock Jnr & William Cock, Ellen Adkin & Harriett Ebdon who we re their Fiancee's. All parties Signed in their own name meaning that th ey could all read & Write. Henry was a Farmer at the time of his Marria ge and was living at Waybread, Suffolk but something must have gone wro ng as by 1851(census) Henry now 34yrs old, is an inmate at the Bury St Edm unds Workhouse on College St with his Wife & two Sons, his occupation is g iven as Agricultural Labourer. By 1861(census) Henry is 46yrs old, he is n ow out of the Workhouse and living at Quindle Cottage, Bury St Edmunds, wi th his wife & three sons. He appears untracable in 1871 Census but in 1881 (census) Henry is 65yrs old, he is living with his second wife at 4 Albe rt Row, Bury St Edmunds, he is working as a Labourer. By 1891 (census) Jam es is now 76yrs old, he is a Widdower again, he is also back in the uni on Workhouse, his occupation is given as General Labourer. He died a ye ar later in 1892 aged 77yrs.
