Notes: Richard Knight was born in 1795, Walgrave, Northamptonshire his parents we re Robert & Elizabeth Knight. In 1841 (census) Richard is the Tenant Farm er of Walgrave Hall, he is living with his sister Mary who never Marrie d. Also in residence are two Servants Elizabeth Blaxley aged 25 & 15yr o ld John Knight, his nephew Elizabeth later married John despite the age ga p. Richard Married late in life, he married Hepziabah Barritt some 27yrs h is junior. In 1851(census) Richard was living with his wife and three ser vants at the Hall. He was a farmer of 96 acres employing 2 labourers. A vi sitor on census night was a Baptist Minister from Cornwall. In 1861(censu s) the address is Walgrave Hall. Again there is a Baptist Minister - a dif ferent one! - visiting. In 1871(census) the couple are still in Walgrav e. Richard's 12 year old grandnephew Richard Knight is staying with the m. Richard was treated like their own child as Richard & Hepzibah did n ot have children of their own. In 1881 (census) Richard, aged 86, and h is 59 year old wife were still living at Walgrave hall, Richard was sti ll farming 80 acres and employing two men. Also at Walgrave Hall on cens us night were charlady Elizabeth Smith from Walgrave, and two visitors Wil liam Wardle, a glove manufacturer, and 59-year-old Thomas Knight, anoth er Walgrave farmer, who is probably a distant relative.
