Notes: Joseph Deacon was born 10th April 1837 in Walgrave, Northamptonshire, he w as the 5th Child of Thomas & Martha Deacon, Joseph was also Christen ed in Walgrave on 16th October that same year, & was one of Four Silbin gs to be Christened on that Day. Joseph lived with his family on his fathe rs Farm untill he married ( 1841 & 1851 Census) the 1851 census shows th at at 15 he had started Employment as a Agricultural Labourer. Joseph Marr ied Widdow Elizabeth Wills (nee Barritt) on the 15th October 1857and to ok on her Daughter Emma too. by 1861(census) Joseph & Elizabeth have a Da ughter of their own and Joseph has become a Shoe Maker. (Between 1858 a nd 1879 Joseph and Elizabeth had 14 children, 6 of whom appear to have di ed very young.) In 1871(census) Joseph is 33yrs old and still in Walgra ve with his wife & four children. In 1881 (census) the couple were livi ng in Walgrave with five of their children. Their three eldest surviving d aughters were all employed as live-in domestic servants and were living aw ay from home. In 1891(census) Joseph had had a change of career. He is n ow a publican, landlord of the Langham Arms in Walgrave. With Joseph and E lizabeth are four of their children, plus a granddaughter and Elizabeth 's mother and daughter Emma from her first marriage. In 1901 (census) liv ing in High Street, Walgrave with wife, son and granddaughter. He is aga in a Shoemaker (Army).
