Notes: Edward Britten was born in 1823, in Moulton, Northamptonshire, he appea rs untraceable in the 1841 census, however It apears that he was briefly m arried to a Sarah Russell in 1848 and they had a Son Edward but both appe ar to have died as in in the 1851 census Edward aged 28yrs is living at t he school House in Walgrave. He is the School Master for Walgrave & Hannin gton National School, he is living with a fellow school Teacher Mary Smi th & a House Keeper, Edward Married Amelia Johnson later that same yea r. In 1854 (Kelly's Directory) he is still Master of the National scho ol in Walgrave, this school enabled local Children to have a low Cost Educ ation. By 1861 (census) Edward is 38yrs old, he and his wife are livi ng at the school House, They have four children & Edward's Mother in Law w ho is a school master's Widow is also living there. Edward is not only t he School Master, he is now the Village Rate Collector. In 1871 (census) E dward is 48yrs old, he is still living at the School House with his Wi fe & seven Children, the two eldest are Pupil Teachers. The Kelly's direct ory of 1876 has him listed as the School Master, Rate Collector for Walgra ve & Hannington, Land surveyor & House agent for North Hall. In 1881 (cens us) 58yr old Edward is no longer teaching, he is solely a rate collector n ow, he is living with his wife & three of his sons. Edward Died in Walgra ve between October & December of 1886 aged 63yrs.
