A Reliving Officer was responsible for A ssessing the needs of the Parish Poor and reporting back to the Gardia ns of the Union Workhouse as to an individual's need. In 1851(census) Will iam is aged 56yrs living at 56 Manor St, Clapham with his wife, Childr en & 20yr old servant Jane White, he is still a Relief Officer. In 1861 (c ensus) William is 66yrs and still living in Clapham though census recor ds lists birth place as Hertfordshire, he is still working as a Reliving O fficer. William is living with his wife,Youngest Daughter Rachel, Grandaug hter Harriett A H Johnson, two house servants Mary Newman (48) & Jenifer H oward (62), also at the Address is 72yr old Rose A Winch who is a lodge r, she is an Annuitant (drawing some kind of pension).
