Notes: Emily Hepzibah Knight was born Abt 1845-46 (15,236) in Walgrave, Northampt onshire, she was the Second Child of Anthony & Mary Knight. Emilie was Chr istened in Walgrave on 25th January 1846. In 1851(census) Emillie is 6y rs old & attending school she is living in Walgrave, with her parents a nd three siblings. In 1861(census) she is a visitor at her Uncle John's ho use in Hallerton, Leicester, she is listed as Emma. In 1871 (census) Emi ly is calling herself Emilica, she is living at Grove Lane upper, Camberwe ll where is employed as a Domestic Servant by an F Kiffin Montague, w ho is some kind of Manufacturer (writting is unclear), In 1881(census), Li sted as Emilie, she was still unmarried and living in Surrey, worki ng as a cook at Sheen Lodge, Upper Sheen in Richmond Park. This was the ho me of 76 year old Richard Owen, Professor of Physiology and Superintende nt of the department of Natural History at the British Museum. Also at t he house were Professor Owen's unmarried sister plus two housemaids a nd a footman. In 1891(census) Emily is listed as Emelia the general serva nt of Maria Skeel a School Mistress & her sister at 22 Baker St, St Mary N ottingham, her age is also incorrect, as is her place of birth which is li sted as Belgrave. She marries Joseph Watson 1896 at Walgrave. By 1901(cen sus) Emilie was married and living with her husband and two Stepdaughte rs at 13, Ruskin Street, Nottingham. Emilie never had children but was a s tepmother to Josephs younger children. In 1911(Census) Emily is 63yrs ol d, she is living with her husband at 31 COBDEN STREET RADFORD NOTTINGHAM t hey have been married for 14yrs. There is a story that that she spent so me time in Royal Service as a 'nursemaid' to George V's eldest son Edwar d, later to become Edward VIII and later still the Duke of Windsor, b ut I belive this is now a Myth. After her husband died she lived for a whi le with her brother Samuel but was "badly treated". She later lived with h er Nephew Edgar and his wife and died of cancer in Old, Northamptonshire. The varied spelling of her name made her difficult to trace.
