Notes: Mary Ann Barritt was born on 17th August 1823, in Walgrave, Northamptonshi re, she was the 2nd Child of Samuel & Jemima Barritt. Mary was christen ed on 10th July 1824 at Kettering Weslyan Methodist Church when she was 11 mths old. In the 1841 census Mary is not living with her family in Walgra ve, aged 17yrs at the time, the closest refference is a 20yr old Mary Barr ett who is a the Female servant of John Stritchfield a Farmer in Culwort h, Northamptonshire. Mary was Baptised as an Adult on 3rd April 1842 possi bly because her whole family appear to have become Baptists about this ti me as opposed to Methodists as previously. Mary Married Anthony Knight a l ocal Butcher on 27th November 1844, Mary's older sister Hepzibah had marri ed Anthony's Uncle Richard sometime earlier, Richard & Hepzibah were the c ouple's witnesses at their wedding. In 1851(census) Mary aged 27 & Antho ny had four children and were living in Walgrave. They have a live in hou semaid & a Journeyman Butcher John Steanes (who later marries Anthony Knig ht's sister Mary) By 1861(census)Mary is 37and the family has grown, the re are now nine children at home in Walgrave. Mary's Husband Dies on 26 th August 1869 leaving Mary a widdow, By 1871(census) Mary aged 47yrs h as taken over the running of the Butchers, along with her eldest son Alfr ed who is living with her as well as two of her younger children. In 18 81 (census) 57yr old Mary is living at the Post Office, Walgrave, and serv ing as a groccer & local Postmistress (A post inherited from her father w ho was Walgrave's first Postmaster. she is living with her son Thomas a nd daughter Sarah. Mary's Youngest Child Sarah Jane Died in 1886 aged on ly 25yrs old. And In 1891 (census) Mary now 67yrs old had retired from wor k, she is living in Walgrave with her Widdowed sister Hepizibah & son Thom as. In 1901 (census), 77yr old Mary is living next door to her son Thom as & his family on Northampton Rd, Walgrave, she is living with her daught er, Ellen, and sister Hepzebah. Mary died (3b,84) Between January & Mar ch of 1907 aged 83yrs
