Notes: Alfred Knight was born on 15th September 1844 in Walgrave, Northamptonshir e, he was the eldest son of Anthony & Mary Knight. Alfred was christen ed at three months old on 29/12/1844. In 1851(census) 6yr old is livi ng in Walgrave,with his parents and three siblings, he is attending schoo l. In 1861(census)Alfred is 16yrs old and is working for his father's butc hers buisiness he is living with his parents and eight siblings in Walgrav e. Alfred's father died in 1869 so in 1871(census) Alfred aged 26 is sti ll unmarried he is helping his mother run the Butcher's shop and is sti ll living at home with his mother & two of his siblings that are sti ll at school. Alfred Married Mary Ann Litchfield (known as Annie) at Walgr ave in 1872. In 1881(census) Alfred now 36yrs old has taken over the runni ng of the Butchers he is living in Walgrave with his wife and three childr en. Living with them are his wife's brother Henry Litchfield whom he has t aken on as an apprentice butcher, and Lucy Blundell, general servant. In 1 891(census) Alfred is 46yrs old and is still a Butcher he is living in Wal grave, with his wife and three children his oldest son now learning the t rade. Later that year his Daughter drown's herself, it is said that the gi rl was not her father's biological child & that he tormented her so much t hat she killed herself. There are other stories that do not bode well in r egards Alfred's character Alfred & his brother Samuel were rivals, it is s aid that Alfred had a faster horse than Sam and on market day the two m en would race their horses back the 10mls to Old. Alfred would stop o ff at every pub have a pint & Catch Sam up. Sam was known to have said th at if he ever saw his brother in a Ditch he would leave him to Rot In 1901 (census) 56yrs old Alfred is still living in Walgrave with his wife and t wo sons. He is now not only a Butcher but a Grazier too. According to t he Kelly Directory Alfred was farming at Walgrave Hall in 1906 and at E lm Hurst, Walgrave by 1910. In 1911(Census) Alfred is 61yrs old he is livi ng with his Wife at ELM HURST WALGRAVE NORTHAMPTON, no occupation so is li kely he has now retired.
