Notes: Thomas Deacon was born 5th March 1833 in Walgrave, Northamptonshire, he w as the Second Son of Thomas & Martha Deacon. He was christened on 16th Oct ober 1837 & was one of Four Silbings to be Christened on that Day.As a chi ld Thomas lived at his parents farm of 16acres in Walgrave with his broth ers & Sisters (1841 & 51 census) whilst his older brother James moved to t he parish of St Sepuchre, Northampton to work for a local groccer, when Ja mes Died in 1841 Thomas then became the eldest son. Thomas's life was n ot without its tragedies, In early 1846 Thomas's little brother John di ed 8days after his Christening, followed by the Deaths of his Sister Eliz abeth & Brother Stephen within months of each other in 1852. Thomas's Moth er Died in may 1860 & the following year he married Shepherd's Daughter El izabeth Flint who came from Oxendon. The Census in that year a newly marri ed Thomas is still living at the Farm now with his wife living with his fa ther who died later that year, the acreage has also increased to 17 by the n. By 1871(census) Thomas's Farm had grown to 24acres & the couple had fo ur children. Elizabeth's Father James Flint had become disabled by this ti me & had also moved in with the family. However by 1881(census) Thomas's f ortunes seem to have taken a turn for the worse as he is no longer farmin g, Thomas is now a Coachman & his wife is a Laundress. His oldest two chil dren are employed as shoe makers & Eldest Daughter is a servant not in emp loy. Also in this year Thomas's sister Ann Died in Childbirth, the baby Ha rold was brought up by Thomas & his Wife. By 1891(census) Thomas had go ne back into the farming industry as an Agricultural Labourer he & his wi fe are not only careing for their own children, but their Nephew Harold Bu ckby & new born Grandson William. In 1900 The Couples Daughter Ella Died a ged 30yrs & By 1901(census) Thomas & Elizabeth are living with their Daug hter Martha, it also appears that Harold Buckby has been Adopted by his U ncle & has changed his name to Deacon.
